Design

The Memorial Design is based on a series of five columns, with the following attributes:

Designs are presented as ancient hieroglyphic patterns, traditional quilt-making patterns, rug-making designs, and photo-collage.

Compositions are translated to high-relief bronze columns with a patina finish, set in a black marble base.

Columns are sheared at an angle at the top to prevent accumulation of standing water or debris. The angles of 20-40 degrees will be positioned to catch sunlight at different times of day to create a dramatic highlight. An in-ground lighting system will allow for night illumination.

Columns will be hollow-core to minimize weight. A lightweight filler material will be used for sound-dampening.

The height of the centerpiece is approximately 8ft. high with a diameter of about 2.5 ft. The surrounding columns are approximately 7ft tall with a diameter of 2ft.

The environment will be landscaped with walkways that match the contour of the Memorial footprint, creating a circular viewing area with wheelchair accessibility.
